Health Education

Patient himself is the most important one in health care teams and keep in mind that wisdom is your ability to use knowledge correctly.

Health education is defined as the principle by which individuals and groups of people learn to behave in a manner conducive to the promotion, maintenance, or restoration of health. The ultimate aim of Health Education is Positive Behavioural Modification

Education for health begins with people. It hopes to motivate them with whatever interests they may have in improving their living conditions. Its aim is to develop in them a sense of responsibility for health conditions for themselves as individuals, as members of families, and as communities. In communicable disease control, health education commonly includes an appraisal of what is known by a population about a disease, an assessment of habits and attitudes of the people as they relate to spread and frequency of the disease, and the presentation of specific means to remedy observed deficiencies.

Community

A specific group of people, often living in a defined geographical area, who share a common culture, values and norms, are arranged in a social structure according to relationships which the community has developed over a period of time. Members of a community gain their personal and social identity by sharing common beliefs, values and norms which have been developed by the community in the past and may be modified in the future. They exhibit some awareness of their identity as a group, and share common needs and a commitment to meeting them.

Community empowerment

Community empowerment involves individuals acting collectively to gain greater influence and control over the determinants of health and the quality of life in their community, and is an important goal in community action for health. Disease prevention

Disease prevention covers measures not only to prevent the occurrence of disease, such as risk factor reduction, but also to arrest its progress and reduce its consequences once established.

Determinants of health

The range of personal, social, economic and environmental factors which determine the health status of individuals or populations.

Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-states or events in specified populations, and the application of this study to the control of health problems.

Health communication

Health communication is a key strategy to inform the public about health concerns and to maintain important health issues on the public agenda. The use of the mass and multi media and other technological innovations to disseminate useful health information to the public, increases awareness of specific aspects of individual and collective health as well as importance of health in development

Four Definitions of Health Promotion and Education

Health promotion is the combination of educational and environmental supports for actions and conditions of living conducive to health.

Health promotion is the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health. Optimal health is defined as a balance of physical, emotion, social, spiritual and intellectual health.

Lifestyle change can be facilitated through a combination of efforts to:

1. enhance awareness,
2. change behavior
3. create environments that support good health practices.

Of the three, supportive environments will probably have the greatest impact in producing lasting changes.

Health educaiton is "any combination for learning experiences designed to facilitate voluntary actions conducive to health."
